Good Question...

...on how did the peasant apostle John write the book of Revelation in Greek?

I recently got this question...

Glenn, how did the peasant apostle John write the book of Revelation in Greek?
I replied:
The short answer is that peasants in the commercial trades (esp. fishing, as was John's and James' occupation) were fluent in everyday Greek...it was the commercial language of the day...John, a native of the villages around the Sea of Galilee, would have had tons of dealings with the Jews in Galilee and with the non-Jews (mostly Greek-speaking) on the east shore of the Sea of Galilee (as would have Peter and James)...

Also, the Greek of John and Revelation is a very SIMPLE style of Greek, without the polish of Hebrews or Paul...It befits a writer who mostly used Greek for business dealings...

hope this helps...glenn
